1. Apply to DTU

You apply for exchange online on DTU Beyond Borders. The application opens up one month prior to each application deadline - read all about requirements, documentation and the step-by-step process on the following pages.

Before you apply

Before you start your application, it is very important that you ensure that you live up to the requirements below:

  • You are enrolled in a full-time study programme at DTU at the time you apply
  • You have passed a minimum of 110 ECTS before departure on your current DTU study programme (not relevant for master students)
  • You have studied for a minimum of two years at university-level at the time of departure
  • You will be able to transfer a minimum of 20 ECTS from your studies abroad, but we expect and recommend that you are a full-time student and complete 30 ECTS abroad*

* Please be aware that your host university abroad may require for you to enroll in more than 20 ECTS.

1. Submit your application

You apply for exchange by submitting an online application on DTU Beyond Borders.

Your application will need to include:

  • A GPA calculation sheet (based on the Danish grading scale)
  • Transcript from your bachelor degree (and master degree if relevant) - retrievable on DTU Inside
  • Documentation for language proficiency, if this is required at the universities you are applying to
  • A 'Joint Application Declaration'*, if you are applying together with one of your fellow students

Please be aware that you can only apply for exchange for one semester in your online application. If you wish to apply for two semesters, you will need to send an email to your contact person, once you have received an exchange spot to the respective university and we will look into whether or not it may be possible. You can find your contact on the individual exchange agreement's information page on Beyond Borders as well as in your confirmation letter.

The next application deadline is for exchange in fall 2024 (remaining spots) and is February 1, 2024, before 11.59 pm.

All information pages on DTU Beyond Borders will be updated one month prior to the above deadline.

Please be aware that if you have received an exchange spot in the first application round, it is not possible to give up your spot and apply in the second application round for the remaining spots. For this reason, it is important that you only list universities in your application that you really wish to study at and where you have done your research thoroughly.

*Open the "Joint Application Declaration" document to see what you commit to when applying for exchange with one or more of your fellow students.

2. After you have submitted your application

Once the application deadline has passed, please expect a processing time of up to three weeks. You will receive a reply directly to your student email, in which it will state whether or not we have been able to give you an exchange based on your listed priorities.

3. No offer - apply again

Read more about how we assess your application and what you can do, if you do not receive an exchange spot in the first application round here.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

It is based on the Danish Grading Scale and you must use DTU Study Abroad's GPA Calculator. In order to apply for exchange, you must upload a GPA calculation sheet to your application.
