Application to the host university
If we were able to give you an exchange spot based on your application, you will receive a 'Selection Letter' from us to your student email. While you do not need to confirm your acceptance of the exchange spot, you will need to notify us as early as possible if for some reason you are unable to go on exchange.
In your 'Selection Letter' the following information will be listed:
- the name of the university/ exchange agreement you have received an exchange spot to
- conditions for exchange spot
- mention of the mandatory 'Get ready for exchange' course, which you must complete in order to keep your exchange spot
- an official signed confirmation letter confirming your exchange spot
Once you have been allocated an exchange spot, you will also get a DTU contact person (International Partnership Manager), who will be listed in your 'Selection letter'. Please note that it is very important that you do not start the application to your host university before you have received the application information - either from your International Partnership Manager or directly from your host university.
The application step-by-step
1. DTU allocates you an exchange spot
2. Check your student email regularly in the months leading up to your exchange abroad, as you will receive messages from your host universities, application information, fact sheets as well as information from your DTU contact person all important and relevant to your exchange abroad - some of which you may need to act on quickly.
3. Take a language test, if this a requirement from your host university and remember to save the results for your application. Erasmus+ students will all need to take the obligatory OLS test, that you will receive a notification about to your student email.
4. Please note - that although we have selected you for one of the limited exchange spots, you will still need to send in an official application for exchange to your host university, as it will be up to them to give you the final offer and officially accept you as an exchange student at their respective universities. The application is usually done online. Remember to start early and take your time to understand the application process and their system properly, so you can send in a correct application timely. Read more on course choice and documentation on the next pages.
5. After you have sent in an official application to your host university, they will in most cases send you an acceptance letter. They will often ask you to actively accept this offer within a specific time frame, so again make sure that you check your student email often, so that you do not miss out on deadlines and important information.
6. Apply for courses at the host university. This is done online, however very differently depending on your university, so always remember to follow their guidelines and if in doubt, please consult your contact person at the host university.
