Choose your courses abroad

Once you have been selected for an exchange spot, it is time to decide on which courses you would like to take abroad. Read on below, to see what you need to know to make the right course selection.

As part of the application to your host university abroad, you will typically need to list the courses that you wish to take abroad.

In order to do this correctly, it is important that you research the following beforehand:

  • How many credits/units will you need to take abroad in order to enroll in what is equivalent to 30 ECTS? The conversion to ECTS is available on the individual pages on Beyond Borders.
  • Is the course offered to bachelor students, master students or both?
  • Which semester will the course be offered in (spring, fall, full academic year)?
  • How many ECTS is each course worth? You are required to take and transfer a minimum of 20 ECTS towards your degree at DTU.
  • Is the course relevant for your study programme at DTU?
  • Which language is the course taught in?

Please remember to use the course catalogue link that the host university directs you to/ the link we list on Beyond Borders as well as re-read the relevant information page on Beyond Borders to see if there are any course restrictions you need to be aware of.

On top of selecting courses for the application to your host university, it is also a requirement from DTU that you make a pre-approval of credit transfer to ensure that the courses you enroll in abroad will be able to be transferred to your study programme at DTU. For this reason, you will need to send in an pre-approval application in good time before your departure.
