5. Back at DTU

Welcome back - we hope that you have had an educational and uforgettable semester abroad and are ready to commence your studies at DTU. Below please read the final steps you need to complete after your semester abroad has ended.

Apply for final credit transfer

Once you have completed your studies abroad, you must apply for final credit transfer of all the courses you have passed. You apply at www.merit.dtu.dk Read more about final credit transfer here. At the same time, be aware that by the end of your degree, you must have completed the number of ECTS credits required by your program. Therefore, it is a good idea to take courses abroad with a number of ECTS credits that is divisible by 5. If you still return with a number of credits that do not fit your study plan, there is also a solution for that.

Pick up your transcript

In order to apply for the final credit transfer, you need to use your transcript of records from your host university abroad.

The transcript will often be sent to us, in which case we will upload it to merit.dtu.dk. However, some universities may choose to send it directly to you or as a third alternative, it may be up to you to ask for a transcript of records from your host university. In the last two cases, you will need to upload the transcript to merit.dtu.dk as you apply for the final credit transfer of your courses abroad.

All the courses you have completed abroad will be transferred as a total ECTS point group. The grades will not be visible on DTU Inside and your final bachelor/ master diploma from DTU. If you wish to document your results, you can always enclose your official transcript from your host university.

Write a travel report

As one of the final steps of your studies abroad, we ask you to write a travel report. It would be great if you could describe your experiences - and if possible pass on good advice and inspiration to your fellow DTU students, who just as yourself are looking to realize their dreams of studying abroad. What would you have liked to know before you left? Maybe they can learn from your experiences.

The report must be submitted in English via your personal account on Beyond Borders under "My Overview".

EU-citizens returning to Denmark

Please be aware that if you are a EU-citizen (not Danish) returning to Denmark after your studies abroad, you may have to apply for a residence permit again. For more information on what to do, please consult The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI).

Erasmus+ students - check that you have met all requirements

If you have studied abroad as an Erasmus student, please be aware of the requirements you need to meet upon the completion of your studies, such as submission of the OLS test and the EU Survey.

Volunteer and let your international network grow

Now that you know exactly what it feels like to be the new student at an international university, why not volunteer as a buddy and help all new MSc-students to a great start at DTU. In addition, you will get the opportunity to stay in an international network, share your personal study abroad experience and meet students from all over the world. Write msc@pf.dk if you would like to hear more.

Join the many international activities organized by DTU Student's Culture Hub each semester and keep up networking with fellow students from all around the world. Check out their activities on Facebook.
