Remember to work hard and have fun during your studies abroad. Below you can read about a few important things to keep in mind while being on exchange.
Be culturally aware
It is important always to remember that you are in a new place with a different culture. Be open and pay attention to your own way of doing things in comparison to the people you are encountering – it might be very different. Show respect, learn from the differences you experience and use it to strengthen your cultural intelligence and become 'engineer-smart'.
You are an ambassador for DTU
Remember, that as you study abroad you represent DTU, so your behavior and manners do not only reflect back on you, but also on DTU as a leading, international university.
Your host university may ask you to give a presentation about Denmark, DTU or yourself. This is a great way to give a good first impression, so grab the opportunity and if you need help to prepare the presentation, we are happy to assist you with flyers, information on DTU and some good advice.
In case of emergency
If an emergency occurs while you are abroad, we recommend that you talk to the local authorities and your contact person at the host university. Afterwards, you are always welcome to contact us, and we will try to help you though difficulties as much as possible. In addition, we recommend that you always have your insurance information with you at all times.
If we reach out to you, we will use your DTU e-mail. Please check your e-mail and respond as fast as you can. We may reach out to the person you have listed as your emergency contact in Beyond Borders, if we cannot get in touch with you.
Erasmus students: Remember to get your "Departure Confirmation" signed by your host university after your semester has ended abroad and before your departure.
This document has to be sent to Erasmus@dtu.dk. You can read more about the Erasmus+ Scholarship and the requirements here.
