It will always be your
responsibility to be sufficiently insured throughout your stay abroad.
As an Erasmus+ student, you must make sure to have the Blue EU Health Card
(EHIC) or equivalent. The card must be valid for the entire period spent
abroad. Please note that the blue EU health card covers far from all
expenses – as an example transportation to your home country (repatriation) in
case of serious illness is not included. You can read more about the
card here.
If you are not eligible for the EU-health card or if you are going on exchange
to Turkey, you must sign a private health and travel insurance to cover your
stay. Some partner universities require you to take out a specific
insurance covering your stay. In any case, it is important that you check
the coverage and consider if you need to take out additional insurance.
Apart from health insurance, you should also have liability insurance. You may
already be covered by your current insurance. Contact your insurance company to
make sure. Ask them if additional insurance could be relevant for you.
If you are doing an Erasmus+ internship abroad (BEng students only), you will
need a more elaborate insurance coverage, which you can find out more
about here.
When you
return
When you move and deregister
with the Danish authorities, you risk being without coverage from the Danish
public health system for a period of time upon your return. So before you
de-register, it is important that you contact your local municipality
(Borgerservice) to check if you will be covered from your first day back in
Denmark.
