Scholarships and grants

If you are up for spending some time and energy on applying for grants there are many possibilities out there.

Each grant will usually have their own requirements and procedures depending on the individual foundation.

We know that applying for foundations and grants can be a lot of work. DTU has therefore collaborated with relevant foundations, to offer up a number of options for scholarships that support studying abroad. The active scholarships are made available on Beyond Borders under 'Grant Applications'.

You can also subscribe to DTU inside’s scholarship list to receive notifications regarding upcoming grants and scholarships.

Please note that you will often be able to use your confirmation letter from DTU as documentation for the grants until you receive your official acceptance letter.

Good luck with your applications!

FAQ

Before you start your application in Beyond Borders, please make sure to read the Q&A below.

If you have not heard anything yet, please note that this is not necessarily because it has been rejected. The foundation has simply not given its assessment yet. Foundations do not meet regularly, so the decision process may take longer than you might expect by the deadlines set in the system.
If you miss a deadline, you will need to contact us at studielegater@adm.dtu.dk, to explore the options for reopening the action past the original deadline. Any application that has not fulfilled all required actions before the application deadline, will not be considered once the foundation begins its assessment of applicants.
Grants are typically paid out, one month after you have signed and submitted their grant agreement.
Yes, you can still apply. However, the foundation has set requirements for a reason, so if you cannot live up to these, please do not expect to receive support.
If you cannot provide a Danish annual tax return, which accurately reflects your financial situation, you will need to contact your bank and ask them to produce a signed letter documenting your total assets under management (I.e. account balance, investment, loans and bonds, etc.).
A rejection does not mean that your application was not good enough. Even if your application and situation fit perfectly with the foundation's requirements, the competition for grants is fierce and there may just have been other applicants, who were in a slightly better position to receive the grant.

Tips and tricks

On top of your SU there are many opportunities to apply for grant through private foundations. Below please find five tips and trick to your application.

Many grants only have a deadline once or twice a year - for this reason it is a good idea to start your search for relevant grants at least six months before you plan to study abroad.
You are most likely not the only applicant for the grant, so remember to keep it short, interesting and to the point, when you write a motivation of why they should support you as oppose to the many other applications they receive.
It may sound obvious ,but many applications are full of various typos and errors, so give a good first impression and remember to have someone else read through your application before you send it.
Read through the procedure and requirements carefully - and follow them. Should they ask you to do the application online and enclose various supporting documents (e.g. references, budget, pre-approval of credits) - then follow their instructions. If you are applying for a grant in Beyond Borders read the requirements for each action carefully before submitting documents.
The more grants you apply for the greater is the chance that you will be awarded some. In most cases you can easily re-use the structure in your standard application and then adjust it according to the receiver and their requirements.
It is understandable, if you reuse elements of a previous application, when applying for a new grant, but do not just copy and paste your application. If you do not adapt your application to fit with the individual grant, you will put yourself at a disadvantage. Foundations favor applications that have been adapted to fit with the grants requirements.

Housing  Check the travel reports as they may give you an idea of accommodation prices,
