Exchange abroad

All DTU students have the opportunity to go on exchange as part of their study programme. Exchange involves DTU sending students abroad as well as receiving incoming students from our 100 partner universities all around the world.
Because of the exchange of both outgoing and incoming students, going on exchange is free and you will not pay tuition abroad. You can see all the many opportunities to apply for on DTU Beyond Borders, which is our database for all exchange agreements. If you apply to go on exchange within EU/ EEA (minus Switzerland), you will be able to apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship for your studies abroad.

Most DTU students apply for a semester abroad (30 ECTS) as part of their study plan, but in some cases it may also be possible to apply for a full academic year abroad if it can fit into your study plan. That and much more we will get much more into during the next pages, where you amongst other things can find the answer to preliminary questions, such as:

• Why go on exchange?
• Who can apply to go on exchange?
• When do you need to apply for exchange?
• Where should you apply to?

On top of that, please find the application process step-by-step below:

1. Apply to DTU

2. Apply to your host university abroad
3. Pre-departure checklist
4. While you are abroad
5. Back at DTU
